Company History and Profile

Sportworks was founded in March of 1990. We started with one customer, Scott USA, for which we bent, processed and packaged bicycle handlebars and forks. Twelve years ago we started producing products that we market under our own name and as a result, our customer base has grown quite significantly.

The Bike-Rack-for-Buses is the primary product in the Multi-Modal line. It was born out of an interest in making bicycling more accessible to more people. Our engineers (most of whom are cycling enthusiasts) took this great idea and shaped it into a viable product by utilizing our tube bending and world class manufacturing experience. Today, we have customers with as few as one bus or as many as 2,000 buses, as is the case with Los Angeles County MTA, and our Bike-Rack-for-Buses can be found on tens of thousands of buses world wide.

A few years back, we introduced our Quick-Load bike rack product line. These racks were born out of the success of our Bike-Rack-for-Buses and were very well received in the bicycle industry. After nearly nine years of making innovative consumer bike racks, including the original Quick-load bike rack, Sportworks sold the consumer bike rack division to Thule in May of 2005. These innovative racks are now available from Thule.

Besides developing, making and marketing our own products, we produce products for other companies. We make mostly sporting related products, but have the ability to make just about anything that involves fabricating tubing. Products seen on the shop floor in the past include snow shoes, ski poles, bicycle components and more!
